The Center for Innovative Teaching And Learning of the SML and the Institute for Computational Physics of the SoE are leading an international research project funded by Interreg-V of the International Lake Constance University. As part of this project, a conference on Seamless Learning will be held at the ZHAW Winterthur on Monday, September 10, 2018. The keynote speaker was Prof. Dr. Marcus Specht from the Open University of the Netherlands. In another theoretical part of the conference, examples of learning disruptions will be presented. A process model for their analysis as well as didactic and technical possibilities for bridging these breaks are presented. Field reports, among other things in form of a poster session, report from practice and inform about the Seamless Learning projects in the Lake Constance region.
Dear SFDN colleagues,
Please find attached a call for papers for a special issue of IJAD to be published early in 2019, on Emerging Trends and Voices in Academic Development. This will draw, in part, on presentations given at the 2018 ICED conference, but we are making an open call for papers also (attached). The timeline is tight (but we aware many people have papers already underway after ICED that may fit this issue perfectly), so please spread the word widely amongst your networks.
Proposals due (but not necessary): 31 August 2018
Full manuscripts (up to 6000 words) due: 5 October 2018

The International Journal for Academic Development (IJAD) (www.tandfonline.com/ijad) is the journal of the International Consortium for Educational Development (ICED) and is renowned as the world’s preeminent and only truly international journal on academic development, ranked in the top quarter of all Education journals (scimagojr.com). We publish articles written by scholars from around the world, and we need more reviewers, especially from countries with emerging and growing academic development communities.
If you are interested in reviewing (which is wonderful professional development for yourself, as well as a service to the academic development community) we would be very interested in new reviewers. You can apply by creating an account through Scholar One: https://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/ijad. Please make sure to select keywords from the drop down list that will help us to assign manuscripts to you in your appropriate area/s of expertise.
If you have any questions at all about becoming a reviewer for IJAD, please do not hesitate to contact one of us. We look forward to hearing from you.
Kind regards,
IJAD co-editors

Contemporary Approaches to University Teaching – enrolments now open
Contemporary approaches to university teaching is a free, online, self-paced course providing key introductory learning and teaching concepts and strategies for those who are at the start of their higher education teaching career. There are eleven introductory modules (e.g. teaching your first class, giving feedback), three specialty modules (e.g. teaching mathematics) and resources (e.g. a document for sessional staff). Each module is expected to take two hours of engagement. While designed for a staff/faculty member to engage with one module a week across a semester, staff/faculty can choose modules that meet their needs and experience. It is a ‘just in time, just for me’ MOOC, and is suitable for academics, faculty, research students, librarians and IT staff and anyone teaching in the higher education sector.
The first run of the course in January 2018 saw 1,020 people participate. Being offered each semester, the current course runs from 1 July to 31 December 2018. Participants can enrol anytime during the semester. Further information and enrolments at https://www.swinburne.edu.au/study/options/find/online/university-teaching-mooc/
